JOSEPH J. MCQUADE
Joe possesses extensive experience in sophisticated commercial real estate transactions, having closed real estate transactions with value in excess of $8 billion in the last six years. He specializes in commercial real estate transactions which are financed through the issuance of real estate securities. For example, Joe regularly handles acquisitions, dispositions and leasing activity for REITs and syndicators of tenant-in-common interests and beneficial interests in Delaware statutory trusts.
Joe’s experience includes a broad array of commercial real estate matters including ground lease negotiation, assumptions and defeasances of securitized loans, and mezzanine financings. He also serves as counsel to a national telecommunications company on tower leasing matters.
The following transactions are representative of Joe’s experience:
- The sale of a $175 million office building portfolio in San Diego for a private REIT
- The acquisition of a $60 million hotel in Minneapolis, together with associated assets and franchise rights
- Negotiation of a purchase and sale agreement for a private equity fund’s sale of a $135 million office tower in Chicago
- A large REIT’s ground lease acquisition which involved an extensive analysis of payment-in-lieu-of-taxes structures in multiple jurisdictions
- Loan work-out negotiations for troubled properties on behalf of a private equity fund
- The sale of a high-profile office tower in Denver for more than $115 million
Prior to joining the firm as a partner, Joe practiced at Hirschler Fleischer, PC in Richmond, Virginia, where he was a member of that firm’s Real Estate Securities Practice Group.
